"Defiance"
(Redfish with shrimp) 19"H X 15"L
The popularity of "Blackened Redfish" almost decimated the stocks of this great gamefish in the '80s. With size and bag limits now in place, Redfish have rebounded and can be found throughout the south. My buddy Carter occasionally takes me out on the Intracoastal Waterway north of Jacksonville in his Hewes Redfish skiff to pole the skinny water and hunt for signs of feeding Redfish. He prefers a flyrod - while I stick with the spinning gear. Unfortunately, I tend to lose a lot of his rigs to the oyster bars on my lame attempts to cast into the wind - but we still catch and release our share of redfish!
Here, a big steely-eyed Redfish stares down at a feisty little shrimp as this sculpture captures the moment just prior to the shrimp becoming breakfast.
